July

When Cody started looking for places to live in Oregon, I was shocked that very few of the apartments offered air conditioning. I always assumed that was a given. We had lived without a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and even garbage disposal; but I always had the comfort of air conditioning. The first day of July brought heat above 100 degrees so our playgroup decided it was time to head to the beach. Poor Cody had to stay and work :( but at least he had air at the hospital :) We picked a beach in Lincoln City and had a blast. Madi didn't like being in the water at first, but after she saw Uncle Jay and Michael playing in the waves, she started to like the water on her feet. She spent most of the time playing in the sand with her new sand castle building set from Pa and Nana.

Madi's 18 month check up went well, she was so brave for her shots :) She is now 31.5 inches tall (35%) and 25 lbs (77%).

Our 4th of July was packed with fun activities with friends and family. Cody and Jay played a round of golf early in the morning and then we headed to a waffle and crepe breakfast at the park. We ate dinner, let the kids run around, and watched fireworks at Riverside Park. Madi was able to stay up and watch the fireworks, last year she fell asleep before they started.

Cody's parents are interviewing for new positions and happened to interview in a town called Grants Pass which is 3 hours south of Salem. Jay, Brit, their kids, Cody, Madi, and I all drove down to spend the weekend with them. We played in the river and at the park, drove around, went to see the temple, and went swimming. It was a quick weekend, but we enjoyed spending time with family.

Cody has always said that if he could pick any job in the world, he would pick professional golfer. He loves golfing and has been able to play with his brother Jay this summer. If you know Cody, he never turns down a chance to play golf; so he was all in when the hospital and sleep center were looking for golfers to play on their team. Cody played in a tournament at the end of July where it would be ok if Madi and I came to cheer him on. We met Cody for dinner and then headed off to the course. Madi loved being outside and riding in the cart. She was mostly quiet before and during swings and cheered after the golf ball was hit. We all had a great time.

Madi's milestones for the month:
-Madi gives kisses on the cheek
-Madi yells 'Jo" to get cousin John's attention
-No more bottles, only sippy cups
-Madi tickles dad and mom's toes
-Madi loves to dance
-Madi pushes wet clothes into the dryer, unloads the dishwasher (with help), and holds the dust pan when mom sweeps the floor
-Madi says Nana, shoe, golf club, car, cracker, want milk, and want out

While at Target Madi thought it was fun to shake the pringles can with the lid on. She opened it up and got out a chip, didn't put the lid back on and shook it again. It's not as much fun when the chips fly all over :)
